Young Leaders – A Vision with A Hope
Auxilium ARUWYE the Development Office of Salesian Sisters, Chennai Province organized a training programme for the members of the Neighborhood Children’s Parliament with the aim of capacitating them for social relationship with Rights based knowledge, Leadership Development and Formation of State Children Parliament. The training programme was held in ALC School Project at Thirukoviloor from 29th to 30th December 2014 for 116 children and 8 Staff. Mr. Vigetharan along with the 10 members of RISE Team were the resources person along with Mr. Maria Vasantha Kumar, the Programme Coordinator of Auxilium ARUWYE.
The entire training programme was a total package of inward journey through morning silent reflection, ‘Know yourself’ exercises and talks and activities on social relationships. The members were to divided into five groups and form parties with goals and objectives and symbols. Later they made a presentation of their party and invited the support of the audience. The members were called to submit their nomination for the State level parliament Election. Sociocratic election was held and the members for the State level Parliament were elected. Master. Sathish from Manikandam was elected as the Prime Minister and Master. Koteeswaran from Anmarudai was elected as the Deputy Prime Minister. The other Ministers were elected and thus the State Children Parliament with 14 ministers and 6 members came was born at 30th December 2014.
The elected ministers were sworn in as Officer Bearers by Sr. Magnificat Soosai the Provincial of Chennai Province during the Provincial Gratitude day. The ministers read out their promise and were given certificate and ID card by Mother Provincial. It was a moment of joy to see our children proudly take up their responsibility as leaders at the State level. The first State Parliament Meeting was held and the resolutions to raise funds to support their activities and to conduct awareness programme about ‘Health and Clean Environment’ in their villages and neighborhood were passed with total consensus.
This is an milestone achievement as it marks the Bicentennial celebration of Don Bosco’s Birth. Don Bosco dreamt of young people becoming good Christians and honest citizens. The effort to form young leaders is in line with this dream of our Father and Founder. May his spirit strengthen our young leaders and make them dynamic like him.
