THEME: "Climate Change and Child Labour"
The Environmental and Child Labour Day was celebrated at ARUWYE, Kodambakkam, on June 22, 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on children and the prevalence of child labour. A total of 50 participants, including 35 children and 15 youth, attended the program.
The program commenced with a prayer led by Sr. Sathya, invoking blessings for the day.
Sr. Isabella, Director of ARUWYE, extended a warm welcome to the children and youth present. She emphasized the importance of understanding climate change and its impact on child labour.
Educational videos highlighting the effects of climate change and its correlation with child labour were shown, providing a visual and impactful learning experience. Following the videos, Sr. Isabella facilitated an interactive session, encouraging children to share their insights and introducing the 8 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, Refuse, Repair, Regift, Recover) as practical steps to combat climate change and protect the environment.
COMPETITIONS:
Drawing Competition: For children from Std 1 to Std 7, focusing on themes related to climate change and environmental conservation.
Poetry and Essay Writing: For students from Std 8 to Std 10, on the topic of climate change and its effects on child labour.
Slogan Writing: For students from Std 11 and Std 12, encouraging them to create impactful slogans related to the theme.
Best Out of Waste: College students showcased their creativity by making useful items from waste materials.
Participants were served fruit juice during the break and a delicious meal of sambar rice for lunch.
The Environmental and Child Labour Day celebration was a resounding success, meeting its objectives of educating and engaging the participants. ARUWYE continues to be committed to organizing impactful programs that contribute to the holistic development of marginalized communities.
