vanagam Training

Community Development Specialisation visit to Vanagam

The social work trainees had a specialisation visit to Nammalvar Ecological Foundation at Vannagam, Surumanpatti, Kadavur, Karur District as part of curriculum requirement. The Trainees were the MSW students from Loyola College and BSW students from Madras School of Social Work. There were few farmers from ARUWYE.

Farm research and global food security "Vanagam", universally guaranteed meals, healthy environment and living in harmony with the environment, access to basic needs such as food production, aimed at acting as a social institution.

This visit as totally enlighten the trainee to think more about way of living pattern and the trainee learnt to start Organic Farming. It was very useful for those who want the change from Inorganic to Organic Farming. The 3 days program was about

– Integrated Farming

– Traditional Life style

– How to prepare Organic manure

– Pest Management

– Terrace Gardening

– Kitchen Gardening

– Cattles Management

– Honey Bee Rearing

– Orchards

– Afforestation

– Nursery

– Traditional Seed Collection

– Raised Bed, Sunken Bed and Double dicking preparation

After the visit to Vanagam, the trainees too carried out the follow up programmes according to their capacities. There are efforts to start organic farming. Trainings on "Self Sustenence" were given for the women in the SHGs in Kodambakkam areas. More trainings and awareness programmes are planned to promote life with nature.
